"I continue to explore the edge between order and disorder always trying to isolate the patterns that hold everything together."

For the past 35 years I have been working as an artist exploring a variety of mediums. Much of that has been on Guemes Island where the place and the people continue to inspire me.

The skin-covered pots come out of my time homesteading in Alaska where I became familiar with processing the skins of animals. While living in the bush, I developed a technology to make and fire pots, building them by hand and firing them in sawdust. Down here that evolved into using skins from roadkill and making pots while when I’m camping.

The castings are made from molds of surfaces that often bear evidence of unseen forces. From these molds (negatives), I then cast positives usually out of cement in the studio. They are much like photographs only instead of recording light, they are records of spatial presence.

The paintings are recording the edges of chaos and the phenomenon of emergent order out of complexity. Most recently I am discovering the potentials of stitched shibori and indigo dyeing.
