“Naturally inspired by the sweetness of life.”

My nature-inspired work is informed by Japanese aesthetics and shaped by influences from across North and South America. This blending of East and West reflects my Alabama roots, Japanese-American heritage, and time spent in Paraguay and Brazil. As an environmental anthropologist, I’m deeply inspired by the relationships between culture, place, and the natural world, and by the planet’s biocultural diversity.

Evolving with the seasons, my practice spans photography, music, graphic design, and pottery. At present, I’m engaged in two distinct bodies of work: curated marine–terrestrial photography, including ethereal seaweed compositions, and a series of sumi-ink nature prints. With my mother, I’ve named the latter Shizen Taku, meaning “nature impression” in Japanese.

My family and I are grateful to call Guemes Island home, where we are continually inspired by the generosity of nature and neighbors and invited to steward relations of reciprocity, rooted in love of place. Living here aligns well with Indigenous, feminist, and Asian philosophies that promote an ethics of care for Earth’s interdependent communities of life.
