"You can try anything in painting." -Picasso
“My goal in painting is to express emotions with colors, textures and contrasts of form and light. I try to distill the spirit of a place or a fleeting moment in time, and to capture the essence in oil paint on canvas. My sketchbook is filled with ideas, line drawings and photos that have made an impression. I use these libraries to inspire me. I am constantly photographing places and details to join my collections.”
Marietta grew up in Walla Walla, Washington. She studied art at Pacific Lutheran University and later graduated from Whitman College with a degree in Fine Art. Marietta and her family moved to Seattle and she studied Visual Communication at several Seattle area schools, including The School of Visual Design and Shoreline Community College. She was later employed at Boeing in the Puget Sound using technical skills in computer graphics and design and technical analysis. In 2015 she and her husband moved to Guemes Island where she enjoys the beauty and spirit of the island and now has time to dedicate to art and inner growth.
